Current Research

Clinical Herbalist and Selva Libre Founder Alula Shields has partnered with remote native communities and Ikiam University to document the medicinal applications and uses of plants across the Western Amazon. 

The final product of this extensive research will be an encyclopedia of medicinal plants of the Upper Amazon that underscores the importance of traditional uses and the conservation of medicinal plants. 

This project provides economic benefits to the communities we work with, and our hope is that the encyclopedia will be a communal tool to promote the use and conservation of plant medicine.
